about
"Pretty Good" sports lyrics that perfectly describe the feeling of one's first summer spent in Montreal: the optimism, the naivety, the good times, the conflicts and the nostalgia all irreparably bound to these memories. One example: "Things were pretty good when our eyes were closed / I thought that we could move out on our own." This new single brings to mind The Smiths, The Go-Betweens and Smashing Pumpkins.
The music video was shot in a single take on the top of a roof in Montreal's Mile End, on the day one of the band members was moving. The soft lighting, the warms colors and the breeze evoke the lightness of a carefree summer evening. The song was written by François Royer Mireault, produced by Peter Van Uytfanck and mixed by Danny Lütz.
lyrics
Things were pretty good when our eyes were closed.
I thought that we could move out on our own.
One little twist. Our hats in the ring for once.
We set the rules. You plan the parties.
The last day of June, oh the urgency.
We sold a couple of meals you made.
And we set out for a childish summer.
We don’t need much here.
It’s pretty good for two guys running away, running away.
“The song is so good! We’ll play it twice at midnight.”
The neighbors like to stay up late. Yesterday was a pretty good day.
Oh and the sun looked good today.
You rise and it’s already fading away.
You tell me you would never lose.
I told you we should think and talk it through.
You moved past the feeling.
You wanted to get up but you sat down again.
We sold a couple of meals you made.
And we set out for a silly plan together.
We don’t need much here.
It’s pretty good for two guys running away, running away...
We don’t need much here.
The neighbors like to stay up late. Yesterday was a pretty good day.
